Session 3: God's Promise to Abraham and his Family
This week we will looking at the story of how God calls Abraham and his family to continue the vocation that Adam and Eve had failed at. If you're curious and feeling ambitious, I'd recommend reading the full story of the patriarchs (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph) from Genesis 12 through the end of the Genesis. However, we will be focusing on Abraham for this class.

Discussion Topics
Preparation Resources
- Genesis 12 - 13, 15, 17
- Tim Keller sermons (note that these sermons do not deal directly with our topic, but you may find them interesting background on the Abraham narrative)
Discussion Topics
- Summarize the Bible's story about Abraham and Sarah. What is the general framework and story for their family?
- How is the story of Adam and Eve echoed and carried on in the story of Abraham and Sarah?
- According to Prof. Wright, how is the biblical narrative telling a story with ‘two strands side by side’? What does it mean that, ‘the people who are called to be the bearers of the promise also seem to be carriers of the problem’?
