Discussion Questions
1) The question of messiahship has been swirling all around Mark's Gospel. It was commonly understood from the Old Testament that the Messiah would come from David's line. Now Jesus offers a riddle of his own in verses 35-37. How does Jesus expand their ideas about the Messiah?
2) Jesus commends the widow who gave what seemed to be a very small amount. How does the widow's offering foreshadow Jesus' own coming sacrifice?
3) The great commandments call us to love God "with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your understanding, and with all your strength" and to "love your neighbor as yourself." Jesus underscored this with his teaching about paying taxes and about the giving of a poor widow. What is he teaching you?
