1) As near as we can tell, John's baptisms in the Jordan river did not have precedent in Judaism. What messages and images was John trying to convey with this act?
2) In verse 10, it says that that the Heavens "opened". What do you imagine that was like?
3) In verses 10-11, we see the trinity (father, son, spirit) interacting. How do you understand this mysterious and difficult Christian concept of the trinity?
4) Verses 12-13 have a very brief description of Jesus' testing in the wilderness (Matthew and Luke have longer versions). What do you think is the significance of this passage?
