Study Preparation and Discussion Questions - Mark 2.1-12
The Healing of the Paralytic
Recommended Preparation
1) Mark 2.1-12
2) Mark For Everyone, p. 16-19
3) Jesus the King, Chapter 3
4) Tim Keller Sermon, Healing of Forgiveness
Discussion Questions
This is the first of a series of five "controversy narratives" that run from 2.1 - 3.6
1) What quality do the four men possess that impresses you the most? (vv. 1-6)
2) Why do you think Jesus gave the response that he did in verse 5? How would you have felt at that point if you were the paralytic?
3) Why did the scribes feel that Jesus was committing blasphemy (verse 7)?
4) What do you think is the answer to the "riddle" Jesus poses in verse 9?
5) The phrase "son of man" that Jesus uses in 2.10 (and later in 2.27) comes from Daniel 7. Take a look at that passage from prophesy and see if you can determine the significance of the common way that Jesus referred to himself.
6) It has been argued that this little passage contains a condensed summary of the entire Gospel. Can you see why people might say that?
