The Feeding of the Five Thousand
Recommended Preparation
1) Mark 6.30-44
2) Mark for Everyone, pages 77-81
3) The Good Shepherd, Tim Keller sermon
Discussion Questions
1) After what was no doubt an intense time of missionary work by the disciples, Jesus decides that they all need a break from the crowds and they head across the lake to find some quiet place for rest. However, by the time they get to the shore, the crowds have already gotten there. What is Jesus' response to this interruption of his planned break?
2) Why do the disciples want to send the people away? What is Jesus' challenge to them instead?
3) Have you seen God use meager resources to meet a challenging situation
4) How does the leadership (shepherding) provides contrast with the kind of leader we saw Herod to be in the previous story?
5) This is one more in a sequence of stories about Jesus performing miracles. Why do you think he did all of these miracles? Was he trying to teach us something with these stories?
