Discussion Topics
- What is the secular western meta-narrative? That is, how would the typical, modern westerner describe the "big story" of history? What would be its major "acts" or "chapters"?
- Have you ever thought of the Bible as a ‘story’ and one complete narrative? Why or why not? If the Bible is basically a story, what kind of story is it?
- In the video, NT Wright summarizes the Christian "big story" about the purpose of human life. Do you think that is held by some or most Christians today?
- Describe the general story that the Bible is telling. How might you communicate this to someone who has just become a Christian? To someone who does not yet believe?
- Prof. Wright teaches that when we learn to read the Bible as a story we are ‘inevitably doing something controversial’. What does he mean by this?
- NT Wright talks about five “Acts” of history. What do you think they are?
