Session 1: Paul's Distress Over the Galatians
Preparation Resources
1) Galatians 1:1-10
2) Paul for Everyone: pages 3-6
3) Tim Keller sermons:
Discussion Topics
1) The openings of Paul's letters all follow the same basic structure: Identification of author and recipients, salutation, thanksgiving and/or prayer. Compare the opening of any of the other 12 letters (for example, Philippians, Colossians, and Romans). How is Galatians different?
2) Why do you think Paul added the clause "sent neither by human commission ... " immediately after stating who he was in verse 1?
3) Verses 4-5 contain a typically dense Pauline summary of the gospel. How do you interpret what it means?
4) Verses 6-9 use the word "gospel" five times. What do you think Paul is referring to when he talks about "another gospel"?
5) Based on verse 10, what do you think the "other teachers" were saying about Paul?
