Preparation Resources
1) Galatians 3:1-9
2) Genesis 12:1-9
3) Genesis 15:1-19
4) Paul for Everyone: pages 20-23
5) Tim Keller sermons:
Discussion Topics
1) We've now completed the long "introduction" to the letter and are moving into the core argument that Paul wants to make to the churches in Galatia. Summarize the points that you understood Paul to have made in the first two chapters.
2) How did the Galatians receive the Spirit? Why does Paul remind them of this?
3) In his sermon "The Principle of Spiritual Power" Tim Keller gives different reasons that people have historically had for attending churches ("social connections", "moral instruction", "spirituality", etc.). What reasons do you think most people today attend churches?
4) Describe how Abraham is the beginning of God's rescue mission.
5) What is the argument that Paul is making in verses 6-9?
6) Paul is warning the Galatian Christians that it is easy to fall back into works righteousness as we try to overcome sin and live the Christian life. Give some examples of how we must deal with sin through believing and trusting in the Gospel rather than just “human attainment.”
